Veterans and Mental Health

April 15, 2024 by Shiloh Martin, LPC-S, CCMHC

Veteran mental health is a critical issue that affects the well-being of many who have served in the military. After experiencing the traumatic events of combat, veterans are at a higher risk for developing mental health conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety. In addition, the transition from military to civilian life can be challenging and further exacerbate existing mental health problems.

Fortunately, support is available for veterans who are struggling with their mental health. The Department of Veterans Affairs provides a wide range of services and resources, including therapy, support groups, and medication management. In addition, there are many non-profit organizations that offer specialized services to veterans, including job training, housing assistance, and mental health support.

It is important to remember that seeking help for mental health issues is a sign of strength, not weakness. It takes courage to acknowledge that you need support and to take the steps to get it. If you or someone you know is a veteran and is struggling with their mental health, encourage them to reach out for help. The VA and other organizations are ready to provide the support and resources needed to help veterans reclaim their lives.

Veteran mental health is a pressing issue that deserves attention and action. By providing support and resources to those who have served, we can help them overcome the challenges they face and live fulfilling lives after their service is complete.

SubRosa Mental Services provides a client-forward approach to helping individuals, businesses, and children, in addition to offering life coaching and emotional support animal assistance. Reach out today to find out more.
