Clear Answers When the Picture Isn’t Simple
Sub Rosa Mental Services is a specialized private-pay evaluation practice designed for individuals and families seeking clarity when the answer has not been obvious.
Many people come to Sub Rosa after spending months—or even years—trying to understand why something does not fully make sense.
In some cases, concerns have shown up in school or academic performance. In others, they appear in work, organization, emotional regulation, attention, or everyday functioning. Some individuals have always felt they were working harder than others just to keep up. Some families are trying to understand why a child is struggling despite clear strengths. Others arrive after receiving incomplete answers, conflicting explanations, or a lingering sense that something important has been missed.
Sub Rosa exists for those situations.
Our practice focuses on thoughtful, clinically grounded evaluation for concerns that may involve attention, executive functioning, learning, emotional and behavioral patterns, neurodevelopmental traits, or more complex and overlapping presentations.
Our goal is not simply to assign a diagnosis.
Our goal is to help clarify the full picture—so individuals and families can move forward with greater understanding, stronger direction, and recommendations that are actually useful in real life.
Our Approach
At Sub Rosa, evaluation is approached as a process of understanding.
We look beyond isolated symptoms and consider patterns, history, context, and real-world functioning. This includes how concerns show up across environments—at home, in school, at work, in relationships, and over time.
Many of the individuals and families we work with are not dealing with a single, clear-cut issue. Instead, concerns may overlap across multiple areas, making the picture more difficult to interpret without a thoughtful and individualized process.
We consider questions such as:
- What is actually contributing to the current difficulty?
- What may have been misunderstood or missed in the past?
- Are multiple factors interacting in ways that make the situation harder to see clearly?
- What kind of support would meaningfully improve day-to-day functioning?
A meaningful evaluation should do more than provide a label. It should provide clarity that feels useful, grounded, and actionable.
Our work is designed to help individuals and families move forward with:
- greater clarity
- a stronger understanding of the full picture
- practical, individualized recommendations
- a more informed path forward
Who Sub Rosa Is Designed For
Sub Rosa is often a strong fit for individuals and families who are looking for a more thoughtful evaluation process because:
- the concern has never been fully explained
- past answers have felt incomplete or inconsistent
- symptoms do not fit neatly into one category
- something important seems to be getting missed
- the individual is struggling, but the “why” is still unclear
This may include concerns related to attention, executive functioning, learning, emotional or behavioral patterns, or more complex and overlapping diagnostic questions.
Areas of Focus
Sub Rosa provides specialized private-pay evaluations in areas such as:
- Diagnostic Clarification Evaluations
- Attention and Executive Functioning Concerns
- Psychoeducational and School-Related Evaluations
- Complex or Overlapping Presentations
Rather than relying on a fixed or one-size-fits-all process, evaluations are tailored to the referral question and the individual’s specific concerns.
Practice Values & Perspective
Sub Rosa Mental Services is a 100% veteran-owned and 100% Native American-owned practice.
That identity is not used as a slogan—it is part of the perspective from which this practice was built.
Sub Rosa was created with a strong awareness of how often individuals and families in rural, underserved, tribal, military and overlooked communities struggle to access thoughtful, high-quality evaluation services that feel both clinically meaningful and genuinely human.
That perspective continues to shape the way this practice approaches its work: with respect, care, cultural awareness, and a commitment to seeing the full person rather than reducing people to a checklist or a label.
Why Sub Rosa Was Built This Way
Sub Rosa Mental Services was intentionally created as a focused, specialized evaluation practice rather than a high-volume organization.
Founded by a husband-and-wife team with complementary expertise in clinical evaluation and school-based assessment, Sub Rosa was built as an alternative to rushed processes, generic reports, and evaluation models that rely on the same basic formula regardless of the actual concern.
Our deliberately small structure allows evaluations to be approached with greater thoughtfulness, more individualization, and closer attention to the full picture. It also allows concerns to be understood from both a clinical perspective and within the real-world environments where they actually show up—such as school, work, and daily life.
Because the professionals involved in the practice are the same professionals directly conducting the work, clients are not passed through layers of staff or routed into a generic system.
The result is a process designed to feel more personal, more clinically meaningful, and more useful in real life—especially when the situation is complex and the answer is not immediately clear.
The people behind Sub Rosa are the same professionals directly involved in the work—bringing both clinical and school-based expertise to the evaluation process.
