Part 4 or 5
The Americans with Disabilities Act became law in 1990 and prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities. This protection extends to all areas of public life, including employment, education, transportation, and public accommodations.
The Americans with Disabilities Act is the most important piece of legislation to be familiar with if interested in service animals. “Under the ADA, state and local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that serve the public generally must allow service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the facility where the public is allowed to go.”
This law extends to public access and educational facility access rights. Public access rights means service animals can accompany their owner in public places such as restaurants, malls, local government. Educational facility access rights means service animals are protected to accompany their owners into schools, colleges, and universities.
The Americans with Disability Act covers everything and everywhere. Here are examples of lawsuits. In a school district, at a convenience store, in a restaurant, and potential discrimination suits against landlords.
